Maintaining the Life Safety Equipment

Building owners have a legal responsibility to ensure that their premises is in compliance by providing and maintaining portable fire extinguishers, exit fixture/emergency lighting units and the fire alarm system, along with smoke alarms in the individual apartment units. Failures to comply with such requirements have been known to carry penalties upwards of $16M.
